As a former elementary teacher, I know first hand the importance of small class sizes in improving learning for students. There have been many studies over the years documenting the benefits, particularly at the elementary level. In 2004, Alberta began the Class Size Initiative but it was ended in 2018. The Class Size Initiative led to 2900 teachers be hired and rehired, but the program was ended in 2018. If reintroduced it would reduce by more than 50% the number of students in classes of 30 or more.
“I support grade specific class size caps, and I will advocate for the reinstatement of the Class Size Initiative."
