ABOUT KEN
I have a very well rounded background with experience working for elected officials, as a public servant, and as an elected official.
I have had the opportunity to work in the constituency offices of four Members of Parliament.
For five years, I worked for the Ontario Public Service in a variety of roles including Project Lead and Policy Analyst. I worked with the Ministries of Health, Community and Social Services, Children and Youth Services.
I have many professional achievements as a teacher, an award winning public servant and a School Trustee.
In 2014, I was elected as the Public School Trustee for the Toronto District School Board in Don Valley East. At the TDSB, I served on the Budget Committee and was elected as Chair from 2015-2017. As the Chair of the Budget Committee in 2016, I successfully eliminated the structural deficit without impacting classrooms. I cut Superintendents discretionary budgets and finding savings in technology support. I did not cut any teaching or EA positions. Consequently, in 2017 and 2018, the board did not have to make any cuts as the structural deficit was eliminated.
As a Trustee, I had a 97% attendance record at board meetings and was constantly holding Ward Forums to make myself accessible to constituents and answer their questions. In fact, I held 32 ward forums in four years, more than any other Trustee. I also worked hard to attend graduations and attended 120 graduations over four years!
I possess a Diploma in Broadcasting and a Degree in Education. I have recently completed Certificates in Collaboration and Project Management. I am a proud father of two young children and happily married for 13 years.
