Bayview Village Shops
Bayview Village has many development applications still pending including the Bayview Village Shops application. That application is for a huge expansion of the mall along with five new condo towers of 33 stories, 28 stories, 19 stories, 6 stories and another of 6 stories. Bayview and Sheppard is already one of the most congested intersections in the city.
Consumers Next is the area on the south side of Sheppard between Victoria Park Avenue and the 404 Highway. The city anticipates another 10,000 new units in this area which is a tremendous amount. In contrast, the Canadian Tire Lands has approved 5000 new condos. These new condos will stress our existing community resources. Included in 10,000 new units is a far too large development proposed for the NBC Universal site that would include towers up to 44 stories!
“For years, the OMB allowed buildings to be built slightly larger than a nearby building, and this has led to us having larger and larger buildings which put too many cars on Sheppard Avenue.I will ensure any new developments are not larger than the 43 storey buildings we already have."
Don Mills and Sheppard
At Sheppard and Don Mills, a group of applications are on file for the north-west corner beside the ESSO. Everyone knows we cannot stop all development nor would it be wise to, we know more developments are coming. But these developments are far too large as they stand currently.
I will also work with City staff to obtain Section 37 funding from any developments that are approved in order to build a future childcare, indoor playground, or indoor swimming pool depending on what the community wants at that time."
